Soil Painting Workshop


Celebrating Laredo through land, memory, and place


In honor of Laredo’s birthday weekend, join us for a hands-on soil painting workshop inspired by A Distant Familiar. Using soil gathered from around Laredo, participants will explore how land carries memory, history, and connection.

Learn how to prepare soil into paint, experiment with texture and mark-making, and create your own small painting rooted in nature, memory, and home.


No prior art experience required. Supplies are provided.

  • Kids 12 and under: $15

  • Donations Welcome

Participants will leave with:

  • A completed soil painting

  • Prepared soil pigments to continue creating at home

  • A deeper understanding of how material, place, and memory intersect
