Daphne Art Foundation invites you to join us on Thursday, July 24 at 6:30 p.m. for an evening of conversation with artist + illustrator Jorge Javier López and author Mario Martinez!


Art Talk begins at 7:00 p.m.

López is a self-taught artist who was born and raised in Laredo, Texas. Since 1999, López has exhibited his artwork at multiple galleries across Texas including, Gallery 201, Musa Contemporary Art Space, K Space Contemporary, Mexic-Arte Museum, Sound Alternative Art Space, El Paso Museum of Art. López has also participated in other exhibitions across the United States and in Nuevo Laredo, Tamaulipas. López's latest exhibition "The Price of Admission" is currently on view at Casa Daphne (1420 Washington St.).


Martinez, originally from Laredo, has been writing novels and short stories about the frontera for 20 years. His horror stories have been featured in various anthologies and podcasts and his 2019 novel, Ashtree, is a slow descent into madness set on the Texas coastline. His works about the border include, NEO-Laredo, a sci-fi what-if about a future version of Laredo; The Glowing Pigs of El Cenizo; and Codex of the Jaguar, a comic series co-written and illustrated by Laredo-born artist William Ibanez. Martinez’s newest collection, The Chickens That Are Not Her Chickens, features 13 horror stories illustrated by Jorge Javier Lopez.


This event is presented as part of the exhibition programming of “The Price of Admission,” on view at Casa Daphne until August 22. Casa Daphne is managed by Daphne Art Foundation and is only open by appointment. To schedule a viewing, please call (956) 307-8984.
